The Violence Prevention Coalition of Greater Los Angeles is dedicated to effecting the reductions of violence and its impact on the health and well being of the residents of Los Angeles County through participation and collaboration of a multi-disciplinary network.
Violence in America, and in Los Angeles County, has escalated to epidemic proportions. Violence resulting in interpersonal, intentional physical injury is the leading cause of death and disability for the population less than thirty-five years of age in Los Angeles County.
The Violence Prevention Coalition of Greater Los Angeles, formed May 1991, by the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services seeks to reduce violence and its impact on the residents of Los Angeles. The Coalition is dedicated to addressing violence as a public health issue in Los Angeles. Members represent a broad cross section of concerned individuals from public and private organizations including: public health, schools, universities, law enforcement, the judiciary, community based organizations, the medical community, hospitals, the entertainment, media, and the community. The Coalition seeks to identify the social policies and processes which can prevent, control and reduce this costly health problem.
