The Inland Empire Violence Prevention Resource Conference provides a valuable opportunity for prevention and intervention agencies, community and faith-based organizations, school administrators, elected officials, law enforcement, school administrators, businesss leaders and community stakeholders to come together and share best practices for stemming and eliminating incidents of violence in Inland Empire communities and schools.
Presented with generous support from the California Wellness Foundation, the conference is co-convened by more than 40 Inland Empire violence prevention and intervention agencies including Moreno Valley Promise, Young Visionaries Youth Leadership Academy, Fresh Start Ministries, Peer Leaders Uniting Students (PLUS), Fresh Start Ministries, Community Youth Sports and Arts Foundation, Boys and Girs Club of Dessert Hot Springs, U.S. Department of Justice and Community Action Partnership - Riverside. This annual gathering has been hailed by past participants as "the one of best violence prevention and intervention conferences in the region" and is expected to draw more than 500 participants from around California's Southland and throughout the nation.
Conference Goals: The goal of the 3rd Annual Inland Empire Violence Prevention Resource Conference is to provide a forum for the sharing of best practices and innovative approaches in response to violence prevention and intervention services delivery. The conference will:
specifically examine the long term impact and responses related to violence, victims of violence, perpetrators, families, schools and communities effected by violence;
describe the latest findings related to risk factors for and effects of wrap-around services for prevention, identification, and response to community violence;
highlight innovative practices, programs, and partnerships between service providers, schools, law enforcement, legal systems, social service agencies, and advocacy that can improve the safety and well-being of citizens of Inland Empire communities, our state, and our nation;
emphasize best practices in prevention and intervention strategies that are relevant to diverse cultures, races, classes, ethnicity, religions, physical abilities, ages, genders, identities, geographic settings and communities; and
provide resources for technical support and financial sustainability for prevention and intervention service providers.

Welcome Reception and Dr. Ananda Guruge Lifetime Commitment to Peace Awards

Join us as Mayor Williams H. Batey, II and the City of Moreno Valley hosts a welcoming reception for attendees to meet and greet conference speakers, fellow prevention and intervention professionals, foundation representatives, elected officials, business and corporate leaders, parents and community stakeholders. During the reception, the Dr. Ananda Guruge Lifetime Commitment to Peace Awards will be presented to several outstanding community leaders who have worked to end the cycle of violence in Inland Empire communities.
This "full-day" event will feature a “Meet the Funders”panel and with a Q & A session with foundation executives from around Southern California; a special plenarry session with Kirby Everhart, Chief of California Office of Emergency Services (OES) Public Safety Division discussing the California Gang Reduction and Intervention Program (Cal GRIP) and a full day of capacity building workshops and seminars.
Co-Facilitated by the PLUS Program (Peer Leaders Uniting Students) and the U. S. Department of Justice's S.P.I.R.I.T. Proram, the focus of the Inland Empire Youth Leadership Conference will be to engage middle school and high school students in a conversation through which they are empowered to identify strategies for stemming and eliminating the violence that is plaguing their neighborhoods and schools.
This youth-organized conference will include self-assessment questionnaires, workshops, panel discussions and experiential learning components that will address self-esteem, cultural tolerance, gang activity, school violence, the importance of civic engagement and involvement as well as sessions that focus on leadership development and making healthy choices. The youth conference will conclude with a positive hip hop concert an talent show.

Tabletop exhibits spaces available to display and disseminate information about prevention and intervention related organizations. These resource tables will be situated around the circumference of the main conference facility on Wednesday afternoon, and all day on Thursday and Friday. Participants are encouraged to prepare materials for distribution to aproximately 400 conference attendees. Resource tables are available at a nominal fee, on a first come, first served basis.
